BRIEF HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION
OF THE ORGANISATION

The Society of Specialist in Airway Management Nigeria (SSAM) Formally Society For Airway Management Nigeria Chapter  is an affiliate of Society for Airway Management (SAM) and was recognized at the World Airway Management Meeting 2019 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. However, it became visible only in September 2021 with the constitution of the current executive committee (EXCO) under the stewardship of Dr Aderonke Adesiyan (pioneer president SAM Nigeria chapter). The EXCO hit the ground running from inception promoting the society’s mission and reaching out for membership. The society is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria as Society of Specialist in Airway Management Nigeria. 

SAM Nigeria has unique membership nationwide that include not only the Physician Anaesthetist, but all other Medical Specialist/Professionals that are stakeholders in airway management: ENT surgeons, Intensivists, Pulmunologists, Nurse Anaesthetists, Critical care and ENT nurses, members of industry especially manufacturers/inventors of airway equipment, etc. It is in line with the mission and goals of SAM Nigeria to raise the standards of
airway management in Nigeria by encouraging research, education and dissemination of information related to airway management we have so far
organized
1. Impactful educational webinars: 

  • Management of Difficult Airway in Covid19 patients (Dr Oluwayemisi Oluwadun, LASUTH Ikeja).
  • Trends in Video Laryngoscope (Dr Tsahirou Ibrahim, Insighters Medical Tech Company)
  • Medical Research: Legends and Fairytales (Dr Clyde Matava, Dept of Anesthesia and Pain Management Hospital for Sick Children Toronto Canada)
  • Tracheostomy: What you need to know (Dr Yasir Jibril/Dr Abbas Tijjani, ENT Dept AKTH, Kano)

2. Pre-conference airway workshop trainings alongside the Nigeria Society of Anaesthetist (NSA) and Intensive and Critical Care Society of Nigeria (ICCSN) at their Annual General Meeting (AGM) & scientific conference in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
3. Airway management course that trained non physician Anaesthetist,
Emergency medical technicians, Medical officers, Nurses and Physicians
working in emergency departments and critical care units.
4. Basic airway management workshop at Lagos State University Teaching
Hospital (LASUTH) for Gastroenterologists unit.in 

OUR OBJECTIVES
